It seems as though I "flamed" an untouchable?

Oh well, it seems that you can't criticise someone on social media any more (in public I might add...not going in as anonymous or hiding my identity) without kicking off a support war?

To give the guy credit, he didn't name me - not sure why not as it is easily searchable anyway, but you have to give credit as his "intentions" seemed admirable on the face of it........ but as with common predictability some other "Twit" did, then sent me a Tweet asking me to comment on his comments on the guys blog. Wow.....

There was a recent trend on Twitter to "mass un-follow" people from a few of the "huge names" on Twitter.....fine, their choice - personally I am not in tune with the reasoning behind it, just as I am not in tune with the braggers that love to "play the system" and accrue many followers en-mass in a short time frame just to have a high follow rate......if you look at most of them, there is a decent percentage of dilution from spam and porn bots anyway......as well as people totally out of niche and not target audience ......of what use is a diluted list? Other than to have a high follow rate listed against your user name? I mean I am really shrugging my shoulders here and can come to no other conclusion than the most obvious one......

Anyway, the subject / trend seems to have gone dead, yet one supposed "guru" or self titled "Doorman of Twitter" seems to like to cut, paste and retweet the same comment about making one mistake in his "early Twitter career" using the "auto re-follow" function. His Tweet seems quite clear to me that he doesn't necessarily place any value upon following anyone back. I am sure there were / are a lot of his followers that only followed him in the first place in the hope that he might RT one of their comments / blogs which would "on the face of it" get them thousands of potential visits? Such seems to be the flow of Twitter in certain parts?

I am sure that there were all kinds of personal gain reasons for using the "auto-follow" function - possibly the above point was one of them - perhaps it wasn't?

But now to devalue the "Twits" that he initially followed back that he has with that Tweet and to repeat it over and over and yet still expect to keep the amount of followers that he has? I think he must be relying on the laziness that we can all be accused of of not cleansing our own lists or waiting for them to do the cleansing themselves, in case he inadvertently delete's someone he shouldn't yet has long since forgotten....... or has long since ceased to be of immediate use, yet could help him one day? you never know who your followers are in detail do you?

I can see that he has a lot of supportive and appreciative followers / friends on Twitter, his own blog and the video's that he posts to Youtube, I am sure that there are lots of people that are in his niche and look up to him, they find value in his content and want to be just like him - hell, I bet he can even be a real nice guy - we all can when we get off our individual soap boxes.

I have made one "slightly negative" comment on Twitter (but its how I felt at the time and still do) and the "Twitter Doorman" has dedicated a whole blog post to me which will almost certainly rally lots of support and extra traffic. I have been badged as a "Troll" - wow! Not sure if I should take that as a simple over reaction and ignore it, or rally my 200 followers to rise up against him!

I am very new to Twitter, but I learn quickly. However, I am not new to social forums or sadly being involved in "flame wars". However I do find it hilarious to see a similarity between kids in gaming clans arguing on forums and playing FPS games and "niche gurus and their followers" on Twitter acting in the same manner.

You can take your blog post and marvel in it's wash of support all you want and enjoy the extra wave of traffic to soothe your need for virtual stroking. I am honoured, amused and yet to be honest a trite confused as to why you found my comment so important to either you or you personally brand.

I felt sure that a man of your experience and good standing within Twitter would have taken my comment on face value. I am also sure that you would have been able to understand such a simple comment as "self prophetic"

It's always nice to appear a little controversial at times. Well, at least it has a few personal benefits doesn't it?

Update:

Well, it seems that @unmarketing has totally over reacted to my Tweet, not only writing a whole blog on the subject, and answering almost every post with some kind of "personal slant" against me, making assumptions about me, calling me names, linking me to other "trolls" that make "mom" comments etc etc but has also blocked my own comments where I offered him a reason for my Tweet and has now banned me from making further comments.

Orchestration of a one sided argument to try and save the car wreck that he has created for himself.

He is even lambasting one of his own loyal followers on his blog! he has actually given him a real virtual public flogging! Wow...........proof that he doesn't care? proof that my Tweet was correct!

Oh and in response for me calling him an ass..............he has labelled me as a "prick".....how mature..........oh wait...I mean how hypocritical!

I truly think that you shot yourself in the foot there......you have proved right there in your own blog that you pay very little value on the people that follow you unless they are giving you their hard earned cash. The fact that you can turn on someone so easily and ruthlessly speaks volumes.

Have you done me any damage? Nah, I am not in your "niche" and I certainly do not come under your umbrella of power sir.

I can certainly see large holes in your reputation now.....all made by you my friend. You might be able to band aid it over by deleting my comments on your blog......well, it is your blog and you are free to do whatever you want to do with it...orchestrate all you want. The truth isn't too difficult to find ;)

The whole blog post is testament to your own "self prophetic" attitude.......it is either your way or the highway huh? Guess I was right?

LOL

Chris,

I think you may have missed my point in the comments. My point was that instead of branding you a troll Scott should try to understand why you wrote that tweet and engage you in conversation instead of automatically dismiss your (rather rude) criticisms of him.

Did you not get that?

Eric

Eric - An apology.

Hi Eric, I have already done this one Twitter, but I would like to apologise to you for not reading your post properly, if at all. I was just in shock at the time that the fool had actually turned it into a whole post and had so many "lap dog" support posts from people who didn't know the reasons why, they just took it on face value that it was a "hollow flame".

Thank you for your support in there - not that you agree with my Tweet - I understand that.

Apologies again, I too have learned a little from the experience. Do I still stand by my comments towards Scott? Very much so, and he has evidenced in his blog the reasons for which I Tweeted him on in the first place. The guy only want's to hear how good he is, so he doesn't sound so pathetic telling others how good he is. Full of his own verbosity as my Grandad would have said. Lacks class.

Anyway....sorry buddy, my absolute bad.

Chris

Twitter et al

Sorry but do not see the point of twitter - but that is because I quite happily tootle along in my own little world only raising my head for things which are of real benefit - like this and the chiari forum, however each to his own and I will not criticise another's lifestyle

I agree tho it IS sad to think that it is becoming like a school playground - I am sure that this was not what these sites were intended for and for some they will be good as they will link them with the outside world but this smacks of bullying to me and bullying is bullying wherever it happens

Twitter

Hey AM, I do value your input and opinion and I think that you know that. Yes, Social media can be a minefield, but sometimes it is a useful tool too and has to be navigated carefully.
All I did was hi light the fact that I disagreed with a guys ethic on Twitter......he is now professing that he is the bigger man, yet chooses to delve into the murky waters of childish behaviour that he has accused me of.
Proof in fact that hypocrisy lives.

Do not understand twitter..

I really do not understand twitter but from what i have just read it is playground tactics. Like AM said its bullying, Its sad but very true in life regardless of age.

Bullying comes in many shapes and forms but what matters is how you deal with it. If you are a strong person and can just shrug it off then all's good but not everybody can do that. I am guilty of being very sarcastic and thats on a good day! If i am arguing with someone i end up being the most sarcastic person alive which probably isnt the best thing but i'm afraid my emotions win every time!

Deal with it as you see fit Chris, I can't say much more as I don't know the whole story but as for calling you a troll...? Did you reply 'Who's that clip clopping over MY bridge??' :o)

Twitter

As I said Chris, bullying is bullying however it is dressed up and that seems to me what he is doing. I think he needs to grow up and allow others to use Twitter for what it is intended - as you rightly say social networking.
